Family allowances contribute to the costs incurred by parents for maintaining their children. They include child and education allowances, as well as birth and adoption allowances in some cantons.
All employees are entitled to family allowances, and since 1 January 2013 the self-employed and persons who are not gainfully employed and on low incomes also qualify.
