On March 3, 2024, Swiss voters approved the popular initiative “For a better life in old age.” This created the legal basis for the introduction of a 13th AHV pension. This additional pension will help ease the financial burden on retirees and will be paid out annually starting in 2026.
The 13th AHV pension will be paid in December to all insured persons who are entitled to an old-age pension in that month. The decisive factor is therefore the pension received in December of the calendar year in question. The amount of the 13th pension corresponds to one twelfth of the old-age pensions actually paid during the entire calendar year. Children’s pensions and the pension supplement for women of the transitional generation under the AHV 21 reform are not taken into account.
The first payment of the 13th AHV pension will be made automatically in December 2026. You therefore do not need to take any action.
