The Loss of Earnings Compensation scheme (LEC) offers appropriate compensation for loss of earnings during compulsory service, maternity and paternity leave. Contributions to this compulsory insurance are levied together with AHV/IV contributions.
Persons serving in the Swiss Armed Forces or performing civil defence, Red Cross or civilian service, or participating in national or cantonal leadership courses run by Youth + Sports or courses for young leaders, are entitled to compensation under the LEC scheme.
Mothers who are gainfully employed are entitled to paid maternity leave (maternity compensation) for the first 14 weeks after the birth.
Fathers who are gainfully employed are entitled to a maximum of two weeks of paid paternity leave (paternity compensation) within six months of the birth.
